Gibb's Farm hugs nearly a mile of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, part of a 3,200 square mile reserve.  Ideally located, the Farm lays half way between Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro Crater, near the village of Karatu.

Set among formal English gardens, the Farmhouse and 20 ensuite cottages are the heart of a working farm. Built in 1929, the Farmhouse has hardly changed, retaining the charm of a well looked-after private house. Cosy living rooms and reading corners are just steps away from the dining room, bars and gift shop.

Additional Activities

• The African Living Spa offers you treatments which are based on indigenous Maasai healing techniques that have been passed through the hands of many generations. Ole Labiki Menyengera, third-generation Maasai healer, devotes his time and knowledge to guests and employees of Gibbs Farm.
• Gibbs has been cultivating coffee for decades. You are welcome to enjoy the aroma of coffee roasting, daily at The Farmhouse on your Tanzania vacation.
• A visit to the Tloma Primary School can be arranged for guests who wish to experience rural Tanzania and observe first-hand the challenges facing education today. You can also Tloma village by bike or foot on your Tanzania vacation. You will met a local family and learn about Iraqw culture and traditional ways of life. Admire the women's pot-making techniques and taste the local brew.
• Experience the markets of Karatu. The tour includes a visit to the market, local bar, hair salon and various other small businesses.
• A two hour Ngorongoro Forest Walk covers the best of the Gibb's Farm estate. Guided by a naturalist, trails meander into the valley to a waterfall, through dense forest pathways, coffee fields and village trails. You will see the 'elephant caves': cave-like structures created by elephants digging up the earth to ingest the vitamin-rich soil. This soil also attracts other large animals like Buffalo, Bushbuck, Waterbuck, and Baboons.
• Guided by a Naturalist as well as Rangers from the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, the Farm-to- Crater Rim Walking Safari is an exciting wilderness experience that is only possible by leaving the vehicle and walking on foot. Along the 6-7 hours walk, you will encounter unique plant life and rare birdlife on your Tanzania safari.

Rooms

The lodge offers 20 en-suite garden bathrooms with twin basins, luxurious bathtubs and indoor/ outdoor showers. A wraparound fireplace warms the bathroom and living area. Access to the surrounding flower gardens is given from private verandas. Each of the cottages at Gibb's Farm has a theme indicated by the name of the cottage. These themes explore different aspects of Gibb's Farm and the surrounding communities and are supported by the artwork adorning the walls and shelves of each cottage, adding to the story.
