Uganda
The lodge is perched atop an extinct volcano, in the Bunyaruguru
Crater Field. These volcanic craters were formed 11,000 years ago
and have filled with water over the ages to form serene lakes. The
lodge sits on a narrow ridge with outstanding views of the ancient
volcanic landscape and of Lake Nyinambuga,
which itself is 250 acres in size and 130 metres deep. A
jetty, situated under the lodge, leads to a swimming area. The main
lodge is also linked to the lake by open passageways, which attract
fruit bats, owls and frogs. The lodge twinkles with candles in the
evenings, as there is no electricity or generators to disturb the
peace.
