Day 1: Windhoek
Upon your arrival at Hosea Kutako (Windhoek) International Airport you will be met by your host, who will accompany you throughout your adventure. Kick-start your journey with an approximately 45 minute drive to Heinitzburg Hotel, where your host will brief you on your 14-day sojourn.
Windhoek, the country's capital, is a bustling metropolis that is unexpectedly neat and orderly. This is the main port of call for most tourists and all travellers pass through the city at least once. Windhoek lies in a pretty valley with buildings very much in the German architectural style. The German presence can be strongly felt in the food, restaurants and of course the beer. The Namibian beer is said to be the best in Africa, and is brewed in Windhoek.
Spend one night at Hotel Heinitzburg in a twin bedded room on a bed and breakfast basis. Your host will be able to provide an assortment of recommended restaurants within Windhoek for you to enjoy.
Day 2-3: Etosha National Park
After breakfast, depart the hotel for a 4 to 5 hour drive to Onguma Tented Camp at Waterhole, stopping en route for lunch at Frans Indongo Lodge, just outside of Otjiwarongo.
From the moment you turn off the main roads to travel on Namibia's renowned gravel roads you will have more opportunities for great birding, especially birds of prey during the midday hours. Etosha is one of Africa's great wildlife parks and Namibia's prime wildlife conservation area. Spanning a vast 22 300km², it consists mostly of grassy plains around a huge saltpan, which becomes a beautiful lake after heavy rains and attracts large flocks of pink flamingos.
Spend two nights at Onguma Tented Camp at Waterhole in a twin bedded tent. Your stay is on a full board basis including a guided nature walk, morning and afternoon game drives into Etosha National Park.
Day 4-5: Okaukuejo
Today you'll embark on scenic drive to Okaukuejo. Your travelling time will depend on how long you choose to enjoy the exceptional wildlife you may encounter on your route.
Etosha hosts a vast array of animals, including lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant, rhino as well as rare and unusual species like the black-faced impala, black rhino or the endemic dwarf antelope, the Damara dikdik. As you make your way through this spectacular wildlife region your host will be able to point out the many fascinating aspects of the park and introduce you to the superb fauna and flora that call it home. Etosha provides an opportunity to see a great variety of birds; it is possible to view as many as five species of owls during your stay.
Spend two nights at Okaukuejo in a premier water chalet with en-suite bathroom on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis including an evening game drive.
Day 6-7: Erongo Mountains
Make your way south to the Erongo Mountains. Your travelling time will depend on how long you choose to enjoy the wilderness of this area.
North of Karibib is another charming and attractive Namibian town, Omaruru, the centre for the surrounding dairy farms and cattle ranches. Built on the river of the same name, and set amongst large camelthorn trees, its location, (242km north-westerly from Windhoek and to the east of the Erongo Mountains) makes it a logical stopover when heading towards the Brandberg Mountains and to Khorixas. Interestingly enough, all the major features of central Namibia lie within a 200km radius of Omaruru, including the Brandberg, Erongo Mountains, Spitzkoppe, Swakopmund, Usakos, Karibib, Otjimbingwe, Okahandja, Otjiwarongo and the Waterberg National Park.
Spend 2 nights at Erongo Wilderness Lodge in a tent with en-suite bathroom. Your stay is on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis including two nature drives.
Day 8-10: Swakopmund
Today you will journey through the Pro-Namib, an area of low scrubby bush and grass plains, as you make your way towards the Namibia Coast.
Swakopmund, a charming little seaside town, on Namibia's western coast, retains a strong German flavour - from the cobbled streets and picturesque buildings, down to the typical German restaurants and pubs. This town is traditionally a holiday spot for locals and foreigners alike, with many opportunities for adventure sports and some good old-fashioned fun. Swakopmund is an ideal place to relax after a few days in the desert; wash off the sand and sample some of the finely-brewed local beer and renowned local fare such as fish, lobster and oysters.
Spend three nights at Beach Lodge Swakopmund in a luxury room with en-suite bathroom. Your stay is on bed and breakfast basis. Your host will be able to offer information on the many attractions and eateries in Swakopmund.
Day 11-13: Sossusvlei
This morning, your drive will be approximately 5 to 6 hours to Sossusvlei Desert Lodge, passing through some of Namibia's most dramatic landscapes along the way. Explore 'The Sheltering Desert' while your host shows you the spot where two refugee geologists spent years in exile during World War II, in a canyon of the Kuiseb River. Experience true Namib hospitality and truly delicious menus at Rostock Ritz, where you will stop for an early lunch en route.
One of the highlights of any trip to Namibia is a visit to Sossusvlei in the heart of the enormous, almost 50 000km² Namib-Naukluft Park. Easily accessible to visitors, Sossusvlei is a clay pan, only rarely filled by water, but a place of awe-inspiring beauty. Visitors to the region will be left spellbound by the magnificent ochre-coloured sand dunes, which rise over 300m into the sky - the highest sand dunes in the world.
The surrounding area lends itself to numerous adventures, which include scenic drives by four-wheel drive vehicle in the NamibRand Nature Reserve, where you may encounter a variety of desert-adapted animals, such as gemsbok, zebra, springbok, bat-eared fox, aardwolf, caracal and jackal. A wonderful way of experiencing the dunes is by All Terrain Vehicle with an experienced guide who takes you along set paths in order not to damage the fragile ecology. Guided nature walks and hiking trails provide an insight into the scenic and ecological aspects of the environment with its wide diversity of desert-adapted flora and fauna. A resident astronomer and high-powered telescope provide breathtaking views of the clear desert night skies.
Spend two nights at Sossusvlei Desert Lodge, in a desert villa with an en-suite bathroom and a private veranda. Your stay is on a full board basis, including scheduled activities within the NamibRand Nature Reserve.
Day 14: Depart
Embark on the last leg of this exceptional adventure. Your 5 to 6 hour journey will take you back to Hosea Kutako (Windhoek) International Airport for your onward flight.
