Day 1: Arusha

This adventure begins and ends at Kilimanjaro International Airport.  Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport you will met and transferred by road to Arusha Coffee Lodge.

An attractive little town situated beneath the towering peaks of Mt. Meru and Kilimanjaro, Arusha is renowned as the safari capital of Tanzania, and offers a plethora of attractions and adventures. The town has numerous first-class restaurants, bars and markets to browse, and is the ideal place to spend a few relaxing days before embarking on a safari or attempting to scale Kili. Not-to-be-missed is the Arusha National Park (in Ngurdoto Crater), the National Natural History Museum, the Laetoli Footprints (set in volcanic ash, dating back 3 500 000 years) and the beautiful coffee plantations that dot the landscape.

Spend one night at Arusha Coffee Lodge. Accommodation is in a standard chalet and your stay includes breakfast.

Day 2-3: Serengeti National Park

After breakfast you will be driven to Arusha Airport, where you board a scheduled flight to Seronera Airstrip. Your professional walking guide will be waiting for you on arrival.

The Serengeti National Park, meaning "endless plains" in the Masai language, is undoubtedly one of the world's most celebrated wilderness areas and is an ongoing source of inspiration to writers, filmmakers and photographers. It is Tanzania's oldest game reserve, renowned for the part it plays in the annual Great Migration, when an estimated three million antelope - mostly wildebeest - migrate to Kenya's Masai Mara Game Reserve. This epic, seasonal journey is a deeply moving experience and a wonderful photographic subject. Visitors to the park can roam its sprawling plains on exhilarating game drives or hop into a hot air balloon ride for an once-in-a-lifetime wilderness adventure. The Serengeti National Park is also home to the Olduvai Gorge, where groundbreaking archaeological discoveries have been made, as well as the breathtaking Ngorongoro Crater - a World Heritage Site.

Leaving the established game viewing tracks, you will head off-road into the wilderness walking areas. These areas have not been visited for nearly fifty years, except by the occasional ranger patrol, and they offer a view of the Serengeti as it was - un-marred by game viewing tracks and lodges. The drive to the camp, off-road through the wilderness, is two to three hours, depending on the game. The journey is broken with a bush picnic en route. Once in camp, you will go for a late afternoon orientation walk as the midday heat begins to fade.

Spend two nights at the walking camp. Accommodation is in a domed sleeping tent, with standing headroom in the middle. Each tent has aluminium framed cots with mattresses, duvets and pillows. Separate toilet and shower tents are shared between tents. Your stay includes meals, soft drinks, and house wines during evening meals and drinking water.

On day three enjoy an early morning breakfast before you embark on a full day of walking - wandering amongst the towering rock kopjes that dot the landscape and unlocking the secrets of this magical area. Follow the tracks to discover the spring that never dries, even at the hottest time of year, the small glades with the flush of sweet grass or the cave that the porcupine drags the old bones into. We will move slowly, resting under a cool overhang or the spreading branches of a fig tree. Walking safaris are not about covering distance - you will see less game on foot than you will from a vehicle, but it's about getting up close and personal to Africa and using all your senses. You will return to camp before dusk for a second night in the wilderness.

Day 4-5: Ngorongoro Crater

An early morning start leaves just enough time for a quick cup of coffee and a biscuit before we set off out into the first rays of the sun to try and track down the last of the night's action. This is the time when the animals are relaxing their guard and can often be viewed before making their way into deeper cover as the sun rises higher. Later in the walk, you will enjoy a sumptuous bush breakfast. Take a short walk back to camp to pack and load up into the vehicles to enjoy a game drive en-route out of the Wilderness Area.

You will then board a scheduled flight to Manyara Airstrip. Upon arrival, a vehicle will be waiting to take you to Ngorongoro Crater Lodge where you will spend the next two nights.  Accommodation is in a sumptuous double suite.  Each suite is tended by a butler. Your stay is on a fully inclusive basis, including scheduled activities and park fees.

Activities include game drives on the Crater floor. Additional adventures to the Olduvai Gorge, Shifting Sands, a visit to a traditional Maasai village and walks around the Empakai Crater may be booked directly at the lodge (subject to additional cost and availability of vehicles).

The Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area, within the Serengeti, is home to more than 30 000 protected animals. It is an area of spectacular beauty and excellent game viewing, a truly unique safari destination in Africa. The Ngorongoro Crater, once a gigantic volcano, is the largest intact caldera in the world. Some maintain that, before it erupted, it would have been higher than Mt Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa. Today, long since having collapsed and eroded, it is an extensive highland area with the famous 600 metre (1 970 foot) deep Ngorongoro Crater as its focal point. Nearly three million years old, the ancient caldera shelters one of the most beautiful wildlife havens on earth. Fresh springs and a large soda lake quench the thirst of all the inhabitants. Black rhino are protected within its rim, giant tusked elephant wander the forests, black-maned lion stalk the grasslands and flamingo crowd the soda lakes.

Day 6: Depart

After breakfast, you will be transferred by road to the airstrip to board your scheduled flight to Arusha Airport.  On landing, you will be met and transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your onward flight.
