Day 1

Arusha - Serengeti National Park

You will be transferred to Arusha Airport early morning to connect with the scheduled flight to the Serengeti. (Please advise us if you require the morning flight.) Upon arrival in the Serengeti, you will be met at the airstrip by a guide and spend the rest of the morning on a game drive. After lunch and time to settle in, the afternoon will be spent looking for animals returning as the sun sets.

Overnight at your Serengeti Camp on a full board basis.

Migration Camp is a comfortable lodge set in the remote northern Serengeti, a good spot for a quiet, comfortable bush experience away from the visitors of the south.

Located along the bank of the Grumeti River, the lodge is raised up on an impressive kopje known as Poacher's Lookout, with broad views north over the undulating Serengeti hills and beyond to the plains of the Maasai Mara. With just 20 tent this is a traditional tented camp, but it includes excellent cuisine and very comfortable surroundings. Tents are spacious, en suite and have great views.

There is even a swimming pool, out doors hot tub, honeymoon tent and family tent. The migration seasons at camp is centred around July and November when the herds pass through the area, sometimes crossing the river right in front of camp.

Game-viewing from the breakfast terrace can be superb. Additionally there is good resident game throughout the year, especially lion, leopard and elephant. Activities are in 4x4 vehicles and there are gentle walking trips around the lodge’s small concession.

Kirawira Camp

Kirawira is a reincarnation of an elegant Victorian era outpost, set against the imposing backdrop of the Western Serengeti. Here, guests experience Africa's majesty as if they are among the first to travel these extraordinary lands.

Set upon a hill with commanding views of endless savanna, the luxury tented camp beckons you to experience the soul of the African wilderness. From almost anywhere, there are spectacular vistas of the Serengeti stretching to the horizon.

Kirawira's carefully landscaped grounds are in complete harmony with their natural surroundings. Guests enjoy the highest standards of personalized attention, accommodation, meals and service. Using the finest ingredients and served by the camp's professional, friendly and attentive staff, meals are prepared according to guest recipes or cooked-to-order from the house cuisine.

The fine wines that accompany lunch and dinner are complimentary. Guests can also choose to have any or all of their meals served on the deck of their tent.

Serengeti

In the local vernacular, Serengeti means ‘the endless plains that go up to the sky’. And they do just that. It is therefore easy to understand why this is the most popular and spectacular of all game parks in East Africa. Covering 14,765 sq km, one of the striking features of this park is the series of large granite outcrops that dominate the vast plains, making it very different to the Masai Mara.

Life in the park centres on the triangular trek of several million hooves. This movement never stops, as the animals constantly seek out new grazing pastures. Every year, after the south’s short November rains, wildebeest, zebra, gazelle, eland, topi and hartebeest gather in their thousands on the Serengeti’s southern plains and the Ngorongoro Highlands.

Then, around April, they head towards the western corridor of the Serengeti, where many overflow into the Masai Mara around July/August. They remain here until late October/November, when Tanzania’s new rains prompt the move south again, towards Lake Ndutu and Lagaja.

This yearly phenomenon also affects the lives of hundreds of thousands of other species, who rely on the migratory herds for their survival. These include predators, gazelles, birds and lowly insects, not to mention the grasses and trees that are fertilised by droppings. Another of the highlights here, is the early morning balloon safari.
