Chitabe Camp plays host to a sublime mosaic of waterways, floddplains, mopane woodland and dry acacia in a private concession on an island in the south east of the Okavango Delta. The area is renowned for its vast numbers and diversity of wildlife, in particular predators.
The Chitabe concession covers in excess of 22,000 hectares of pristine Okavango Delta wilderness. The combination of Kalahari and Okavango is home to an abundant variety of herbivores such as giraffe, buffalo, red lechwe, tsessebe, impala and elephant, which in turn attracts the larger predators like lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dog and spotted hyaena.
Game drives at Chitabe are in open top 4x4 and include early morning drives as well as late afternoon and night drives. Walking safaris with skilled guides get you up close to big game on foot and allow you to view smaller creatures often missed when traveling by vehicle.
The birding at Chitabe varies throughout the year depending on the season and water levels. You can expect to see ground hornbill, African hawk-eagle, red-billed hornbill, gabar goshawk and scarlet-chested sunbird.
The Camp features eight spacious tents built on elevated wood decks amongst the trees. Each tent has en-suite facilities, an indoor and outdoor shower and twin beds. The pub, dining and lounge areas are under thatch and built on raised decks to provide breathtaking views across the floodplain, with a pool to cool off in during the heat of the day.
